Breathitt County Schools to Receive $27 Million Social Media Settlement

Breathitt County Schools is set to receive a $27 million settlement from four social media companies.

According to WYMT, the district filed a lawsuit against Snapchat, Meta, TikTok and YouTube, accusing the companies of creating addictive technologies that hurt student mental health and forced schools to spend more on counseling and other services.

The settlement is the first of more than 1,300 similar lawsuits filed by districts across the country.
