Two Eastern Kentucky state lawmakers have filed new legislation at the state capitol that would address ongoing concerns about the challenges of cleaning debris from streams and waterways following flood events.
Senators Scott Madon and Phillip Weaver, from Pineville and Pikeville respectively, filed joint resolution 62 after repeated conversations with local leaders who are still dealing with problems long after the 2022 floods have receded.
Madon says local communities that are trying to clean up their small waterways to prevent more flooding – often run into permitting problems and burdensome state or federal requirements.
