Judge delays start of Amber Spradlin murder trial by one day

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The judge in a high-profile east Kentucky murder case issued an order to delay the start of the trail by one day, giving prosecution time to file a continuance.

Special Judge Eddy Coleman on Friday order the prosecution in the Amber Spradlin murder case to produce a witness from the state forensic crime lab to testify regarding all outstanding forensic testing and give the expected date of completion of the testing.

Spradlin’s body was found in June 2023 at the home of Floyd County dentist Michael McKinney. His son, M.K. McKinney, has been charged with her murder. Dr. McKinney and Joshua Mullins have been charged with multiple counts of evidence tampering.

The trial was set to begin May 11th, but at the request of Commonwealth’s Attorney Brent Turner, will be delayed one day to explain a continuance.
