Lawrence County Man Accused of Burning Motorcycle, Sparking Hillside Fire

A Lawrence County man is facing charges after deputies say he intentionally set his motorcycle on fire along Highway 23.

Deputies were called on Saturday, Feb. 21, after a report that a man was threatening to burn his bike, and dispatch later confirmed the motorcycle was already on fire.

When deputies found Adam Maynard less than a mile away, he first denied they could prove the motorcycle was his, but later admitted he used his sock and a lighter to start the fire.

Deputies say they also found three needles and a pill container, and Maynard admitted there was meth inside.

He reportedly told the deputy he set the motorcycle on fire to keep anyone from stealing it, and the flames spread to a nearby hillside, bringing out firefighters to contain the blaze.
