New Law Allows School Buses To Catch Stop Sign Violators On Camera

Kentucky drivers better be careful when they are driving near stopped school buses.

A new state law will allow Kentucky school districts to install cameras on school buses to catch drivers who fail to stop for the stop signs that buses deploy when having kids get on-board.

The new bill that was implemented this week allows districts to mount two cameras on each bus to record drivers who aren’t following the bus stop sign law.

Supporters say the stop signs on buses are there to protect kids who are trying to cross streets to board and, while most drivers comply with the law, there are certain roadways that remain a concern.

Under the law, drivers who are caught not stopping when buses have their stop signs activated face a 300-dollar ticket for the first offense and 500-dollar tickets for each additional offense.
