Letcher County Sheriff Shawn Micky Stines is pleading not guilty after being arraigned Wednesday for the fatal shooting of Judge Kevin Mullins last week.
Stines allegedly shot Judge Mullins several times in his chambers last Thursday during an argument.
Stines is charged with first-degree murder and appeared virtually from Laurel County Jail.
A public defender has been appointed since Stines did not obtain a lawyer.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 1st at the Morgan County Judicial Center in West Liberty.
