The Prestonsburg Police Department is expanding its transparency efforts with the addition of new in-car camera systems for patrol and detective vehicles.
In a press release, Police Chief Ross Shurtleff says the cameras will work alongside the department’s body-worn cameras to provide additional video coverage during traffic stops, emergency responses and other law enforcement encounters.
The system can automatically begin recording when emergency lights are activated or when officers draw or deploy a Taser or service weapon.
City officials say the project is designed to improve accountability and public confidence in police services.
